Maersk Line is poised to take over charters of “a handful” of vessels in the 10,000-teu to 13,000-teu range as part of “a new strategic co-operation” with the South Korean operator, the Danish company confirms.

The development forms part of an agreement that sees the smaller Korean operator’s hopes of joining the 2M alliance dashed and its having to settle for a slot-sharing agreement with the world’s two-largest lines — Maersk Line and Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC).
