Developers at Ottawa-based Maerospace have applied for a US patent for a position-forecasting algorithm that “utilises location and direction information for the vessel, and estimates one or more possible positions based on previous paths taken by vessels from that location and heading in substantially the same direction”.
The new software is an update of the firm’s existing “Timecaster” system, which draws on big data to predict a real-time position.
