Market chatter emerged over Christmas that Navig8 was negotiating a contract at New Times in China for up to eight aframax tankers.
A deal for four firm 115,000-dwt ships was said to be in progress, with options for four more. At a price of $41m per ship, it could have tipped the scales at $328m.
However, when contacted by TradeWinds this week, Jason Klopfer, commercial director for Navig8 Americas, insisted the company had no such plans.
