Last week, national electricity provider Cammesa closed a process requesting initial proposals on new power plant projects, specifying that these must be close to water, connected to the national grid and be provided with fuel.

Local energy consultants say it is largely understood that LNG will be the main source of fuel supply for the new plants.

They indicate that these would probably come onstream in the next two to three years in advance of developing the country’s Vaca Muerta shale gas resources in eight to 10 years’ time.
