IUMI is highlighting that there has been a sharp increase in fires on vehicle decks at a time when most other casualties are showing a favourable trend.
The threat has already been highlighted by organisations including the Nordic Association of Marine Insurers (Cefor) and the Norwegian Hull Club, with IUMI this week publishing a position paper urging increased international regulation to tackle the problem.
