According to reports, the Chinese-owned, 20,500-dwt Union Demeter (built 1986) was detained at Haldia at the request of a Mumbai court over outstanding bunker payments.
The MHI-built vessel is owned by Tranglory, the management arm of shipowner Tranvast, also referred to as Nanjing Yuanhao in Chinese.
Apart from the unpaid bunker bills, Tranglory Shipping is also in arrears on crew salaries totalling $220,000.
