Brokers report this week that Aswan has bought the 91,400-dwt Chubu Maru (built 1997) from Taiyo Nippon Kisen Co for $5.7m.
The vessel is described as being a coal carrier and is operated by Japanese outfit K Line to ship Indonesian coal to Japan.
The ship’s destiny appears to lie in the Middle Eastern aggregates (crushed rock) trade. Aswan Trading is one of Qatar’s largest limestone and aggregates importers.
