Aqualis Offshore founder Reuben Segal estimates that more than 370 rigs of various types are stacked in warm or cold lay-up. Many are older than 30 years and ripe for recycling.
Surprisingly, shipbreakers are far from keen to dismantle rigs.
Segal, who has completed over 200 demolition inspections in the past 15 years, including surveys for every semi-submersible and jack-up rig that has been beached in the Indian subcontinent to date, is not surprised.
