Somali piracy once again led the international news agenda this week in a flashback to the dark days of Captain Phillips and the Maersk Alabama, as a small bunker vessel was hijacked and its eight-strong crew held for ransom. Plenty of maritime security professionals were swift to talk up the risks to all vessels in the region, with the suggestion that shipowners have started to lower their guard after five years with no successful attacks.
