Kristin Holth, DNB’s head of shipping, offshore and logistics, has issued a severe health warning to anybody entertaining thoughts of newbuilding orders.

She says it is vital to “refuse the temptation” to order bargain ships from yards in crisis.

“That would be the best highway to destroy the market,” Holth told Dagens Naeringsliv (DN)’s Shipping of the Future conference in Oslo.

She gave the same message earlier at the DNB Oil, Offshore & Shipping Conference, also in the Norwegian capital, when Pacific Basin chief executive Mats Berg- lund urged the industry to remember that the dry bulk fleet is still growing, even though the freight market may be “past the worst”.
