Eagle Bulk Shipping has sold its only handymax bulker just weeks after acquiring nine modern ultramaxes.
Sources say the Oshima-built, 48,000-dwt Sparrow (built 2000), which was the company’s oldest ship, has gone to an undisclosed buyer for $5.2m to $5.3m.
Eagle Bulk is benefiting from the stronger market for vintage units. In May last year, the Sparrow was probably worth half of its sale figure.
