South Korea’s Polaris Shipping may scrap some of its elderly converted very large ore carriers (VLOCs) after the sinking of the 266,000-dwt Stellar Daisy (built 1993), which killed 22 seafarers.

The Seoul-based shipping company is reported to have sent two VLOCs — the 263,000-dwt Stellar Galaxy (built 1993) and 279,000-dwt Stellar Unicorn (built 1993) — to cold layup in Labuan, Malaysia, a well-known long-term layup site.
