The growing importance of wind farms for both German shipyards and ports has been underlined by the country’s renewables giant, RWE Innogy, sealing a deal with Eurogate Container Terminal Bremerhaven to use areas of the port.

A two-year lease agreement has been signed covering 17 hectares and a quay of up to 400 metres on Container Terminal 1.

The site will be used to preassemble 48 six-MW wind turbines and their foundations.
