Patience has paid off for ASL Marine of Singapore, which has managed to force a Thai shipowner to pay a shiprepair bill nearly four years after the work was completed.

ASL has held Thai owner Chemstar Shipping’s 1,750-dwt chemical tanker Bitumen Star (built 1984) under arrest for the past three weeks, demanding the owner pay up the remaining SGD 450,000 ($357,000) it owes for drydocking and repairs undertaken on the 3,000-dwt chemical tanker Chumphon Star (built 2006) at its Batam facility between April and September 2007.
