Alexander Oetker - a younger member of the family Oetker Group which owns German liner Hamburg Sud - has set up his own shipowning company focused on bulkers but also investing in containerships.
Hamburg-based AO Schiffahrt has already purchased three handysize bulkers and has taken control of a 2,700-teu boxship newbuilding from Alfred Hartmann.
It is understood that Alexander Oetker has used his own equity to acquire the bulkers but is looking to develop future projects via private placements with other experienced shipping investors.
