Things have not gone exactly as planned this year for Astillero Rio

Santiago (ARS).

Nothing has come of months of negotiations with Greek, Dutch and German

shipowners for newbuilding orders. And by this month, ARS still hadn't

managed to deliver the 30,000-dwt, single-hull tanker Ona Tridente - a

vessel that was supposed to symbolize the yard's re-entrance into the

marketplace.

Some European observers are quick to point out that the South American

shipyard faced a struggle from the beginning.
