RaetsClub Marine, an underwriter specializing in insurance for
charterers, is moving into the shipowner market with the launch of a
freight, demurrage and defence (FD&D) cover.
Most FD&D cover is currently provided by the protection and indemnity
(P&I) clubs, but Rotterdam-based RaetsClub believes there are distinct
advantages to using a separate underwriter.
Despite its name, RaetsClub is not a mutual insurer, but a fixed-premium
underwriter backed by Deutsche Versicherungs und Ruckversicherungs AG
(Darag) - the former East German state insurance company that is now
part of the Colonia/AXA/UAP group.
