Siem lines up first car-carrier order in China at $60m apiece

Oslo-based Siem Car Carriers is understood to be in the process of placing its first newbuilding order.

Sources say Siem has booked a pair of 6,500-car-equivalent-unit (ceu) ships at $60m apiece for delivery in 2014 and 2015 from Samjin Shipbuilding Industries in China.

TradeWinds understands the deal hinges on Siem agreeing a design that is significantly more efficient than conventional car carriers at a acceptable price.
