Golar LNG will go ahead with converting the first of its three 1970s-built, Moss-type LNG carriers into floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) production units on a speculative basis.

Speaking to TradeWinds following last week’s announcement on the company’s agreement with Singapore’s Keppel Shipyard to develop its first FLNG vessel, Golar chief executive Doug Arnell said: “As Golar did with FSRUs [floating storage and regasification units], we are kicking off this effort on a speculative basis to give us the best opportunity to provide a fast-track solution to the market.”
