Brokers say the Japanese owner sold the 20,000-dwt Stolt Swazi (built 2007) to Chilean interests.
The stainless steel, Fukuaka-built ship is understood to have fetched $21m to $21.5m, which represents further pressure on values.
The ship has been trading in the chartered-in fleet of Unicorn Shipping, an arm of South Africa’s Grindrod. The state of the charter is not immediately clear but Grindrod is understood to have had a purchase option on the tanker.
