A new partnership between private-equity powerhouse Oaktree Capital and Germany’s Rickmers Group is expected to pen an order for medium-size ships.

Sources say Oaktree has been in talks to order newbuildings of around 5,000 teu, although a Rickmers spokesperson says no decision has been taken and that the specifications have yet to be fixed.

The 5,000-teu size fits the profile of Hamburg-based Rickmers, which manages a fleet of more than 90 vessels between 1,000 teu and 5,000 teu on top of eight post-panamaxes on charter to Maersk Line.
