Canadian crude exports combined with growing energy independence in the US may not be the threat to VLCC demand some fear, a US shipboker has suggested.

Even as Canadian pipeline shipments across the border have increased and US import demand has decreased by 3% so far this year, imports on the key VLCC route from the Persian Gulf have grown by 20%, according to McQuilling.
