Reederei Johann MK Blumenthal, one of Germany’s oldest shipping companies, is no different from most other players in the dry-bulk market by adopting a cautious, wait-and-see approach.

The company, founded by the great-grandfather of current pres-ident, Dr Matthias-Kaspar (MK) Reith, had around 15 bulker newbuildings on order when the markets were booming but, today, it has just a couple of 31,950-dwt geared handysize vessels remaining for delivery.
