Denmark’s Nordic Bulk Carriers is set to almost double its fleet of ice-class bulkers as it targets the Northern Sea Route (NSR) between Russia and China.
The company has ordered two firm ice-class 1A, 75,000-dwt bulkers, believed to be costing between $30m and $35m each, at a Japanese shipyard, with options for more.
Company managing director Christian Bonfils confirms the order but will neither disclose the identity of the yard nor how many options have been secured.
