A war of competing claims is underway in a federal court fracas over an incident when a K Line-chartered bulker came into contact with Canada’s largest coal terminal, costing the facility’s operator an estimated $50m.

Westshore Terminals launched the federal court case in December soon after the 180,000-dwt Cape Apricot (built 2004) struck its Berth 1, putting the latter out of service for just over two months.

The
