Panamax and sub-panamax boxships suffering from so-called cascading in liner operators’ fleets may not find relief until the second half of next year, a New York conference has been told.

Vessels of between 3,000 teu and 5,000 teu are facing significant pressure in the containership markets as operators push larger vessels down the service chain to make way for giant newbuildings ordered in the “mini-boom” of 2011, Evangelos Chatzis, finance chief at New York-listed Danaos Corp, told Capital Link’s Invest in International Shipping Forum.
