Tiny plastic beads are proving a headache as the Swedish Club tries to bring one of the most costly casualties of recent years to a conclusion.

The beads are just 2.5 millimetres in diameter and chemically inert but a huge removal operation that has so far cost $10m is under way to remove them from beaches around New Zealand’s Bay of Plenty.
