International Shipholding Corp (ISC) is looking to smaller bulkers to grow its foreign-flag dry bulk operations, even after the segment led the company to dampen its operational earnings outlook for the year.

President Erik Johnsen said during an earnings briefing that while the near-term supply-and-demand conditions remain unfavourable for dry bulk, medium to long-term prospects look good.

“Therefore, we have maintained our focus on developing opportunities to selectively increase our handysize bulker portfolio and enhance our strategic position in this market niche,” he said.
