An appropriate venue, the Norwegian Maritime Museum on the Bygdoy peninsula, was chosen and guests — who were treated to fish soup and champagne — arrived by boat after having a tour of the inner harbour in glorious August sunshine.

Outside the museum, they were entertained by the Norwegian Seamen’s Choir before moving inside for a welcoming speech by Thome’s chairman, 70-year-old Olav Eek Thorstensen.
