An executive at Zhoushan Wuzhou tells TradeWinds that a domestic shipping company called Shanghai Zhonggu Shipping inked the six 2,500-teu units.
“This is our first pure containerships order,” he said. “In the past, we have built multipurpose [MPP] vessels that have capacity to carry containers. But building a whole boxship is new to us.”
He adds that Zhoushan Wuzhou is taking Beijing’s advice to beef up its capabilities by constructing higher-value ships.
