The 115,000-dwt ships are set to be built at Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) in South Korea and are expected to cost $52m each. They are tipped to be delivered in 2016 and 2017.
Statoil will employ the ships at the Pellegrino field and in the Campos Basin. The deal for the quartet is set to run for five firm years at $22,500 per day, with options for up to 15 years.
