A proposed coastal shipping service between India and Bangladesh has suffered a setback after India laid out challenging conditions prior to its launch, officials say.
India is demanding Bangladeshi vessels earmarked for the service be classed by the International Association for Classification Societies (IACS) or be inspected by the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) before joining. Bangladeshi insurance companies providing cover for the ships must also register with Indian authorities.
