Scorpio Tankers has taken its spending on VLCC newbuildings past the $1bn mark following the addition of more tankers to its orderbook.
Well-placed sources say the New York-listed company has increased the number of firm tankers it has on order at South Korean yards from seven to 11.
Scorpio is said to have added two more VLCCs at Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), bringing the total number of tankers it has at yards controlled by the world’s largest shipbuilder to four.
