A German-backed project to build the first gas-powered feeder containerships in China is being held back by a lack of portside infrastructure.

The project is being worked by Haren-based Shipping Trust & Values (Reederei STV), the partnership set up last year to tap investment in boxships, bulkers and multipurpose (MPP) vessels.

The fledgling joint venture set up by German shipowners Gerd Wessels, Stefan Jungerhans and Torsten Westphal is working on a landmark order for a series of 1,400-teu gas-powered containerships.
