Under chairman Ng Siu Fai and his brother, managing director Thomas Ng Kam Wah, publicly traded but seldom seen bulker owner Jinhui Shipping has built up an impressive fleet and balance sheet — not always to the sound of applause from non-controlling shareholders, some of whom have criticised the company’s policies on dividends and executive compensation.

But a conservative approach to financing, newbuilding and chartering has built Jinhui’s fleet to 38 ships with an average age of seven years, all handymax and supramax except for one handysize, two panamax and two post-panamax vessels.
