Commodities trading giant Cargill has increased its position in the tanker-owning business following confirmation that the company has bought two modern medium-range (MR) tankers from Star Maritime of Singapore.
The ships are the STX-built, 51,000-dwt Abu Dhabi Star and Emirates Star (both built 2008), which are said to have changed hands for some $25m to $25.5m each.
In January, the vessels were reported sold for $28m each to an undisclosed buyer.
