Norwegian gas carrier operator IM Skaugen is seeking compensation from Germany’s MAN Diesel & Turbo based on a claim that the marine engine manufacturer falsified factory tests used to confirm compliance with fuel consumption performance, leading to financial losses.

The claim has been revealed in Skaugen’s 2013 preliminary results. In it, the shipowner says it has an admission from MAN that so-called Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) have been falsified by the company, a leading supplier of marine engines to the shipping industry.
