A state-owned Chinese shipyard is likely to be the winner of an order for five 14,000-teu containerships planned by China Cosco Holdings.

Sources familiar with Cosco add that it is taking advantage of China’s subsidy scheme to construct the mega-boxships.

The scheme will pay CNY 750 ($125) per gross ton (gt) for scrapping older Chinese-flag ships and CNY 750 per gt for replacements of equal size or bigger contracted at state-owned yards.
