Norwegian owner and operator Torvald Klaveness has sold its first vessel for demolition in five years.

Chief executive Lasse Kristoffersen confirms its sole tanker, the 83,000-dwt Baru (built 1986), has gone for so-called green recycling in China to be handled by the Bergen-based Grieg group.

“We did consider other locations than China but only there [China] did we find yards that could document a recycling that complied with our requirements for environment and responsibility,” Kristoffersen said.
