Nasco teams up with local player Datong to book four bulkers

Dry cargo owner Nanjing Ocean Shipping Co (Nasco) is linking up with a smaller local player to order four bulker newbuildings.

The deal illustrates the co-operative nature of the independent shipowner culture of the upriver port and shipbuilding centre of Nanjing.

Nasco has gone to Taizhou Kouan Shipbuilding for four 55,500-dwt bulkers for delivery in 2016. The established Jiangsu-based owner has not disclosed the cost of the newbuildings but local sources believe the price to be between $25m and $26m apiece.
