As TradeWinds earlier reported, the focus as to the cause of the 16 April tragedy — which left more than 300 dead or missing — has now turned to the possibility that it was overloaded, thereby damaging its stability and causing it to list and finally sink after making a 45° turn.

The suggestion is that the relevant authorities were not aware of a 967-tonne limit on cargo capacity placed on the Sewol after it was enlarged in 2012.
