Network Shipping has failed in a bid to liberate seized cash in a legal fight with Alaska Reefer Management over mechanical troubles that turned to frozen fish hauls into a series of costly setbacks.

District Judge John Keenan, of the US federal court in New York, rejected Network’s arguments that its presence in neighbouring New Jersey made asset seizure inappropriate.

Network, which is based in Coral Gables, Florida, and is the vessel-owning arm of food giant Del Monte Fresh Produce, is facing accusations from Alaska Reefer that the 428,000-cbf Marbella Carrier and Murcia Carrier (both built 1996) broke down repeatedly during voyage charters.
