One of the world’s largest reefer operators is making a landmark move into the container shipping sector with a $60m investment in its first boxships.
Dutch operator Seatrade has acquired a pair of 2,200-teu resales for around $30m each, although that is “just the start of a series” and the number is expected to grow, says managing director Yntze Buitenwerf.
He declines to reveal how many boxships will be ordered but explains that Seatrade’s services can currently accommodate 25 vessels.
