Energy major Total wants to exchange the propulsion units on two LNG carriers under construction for low-pressure gas-injection units capable of using LNG, to take advantage of perceived operational cost savings.
The French giant is eyeing up the switch for the 180,000-cbm units, which were contracted at Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) by South Korea’s SK Shipping and Japanese trader Marubeni against 20-year charters with Total.
