The 299,000-dwt Varada Blessing (built 1993) is reported sold “as is” at Hong Kong auction. Although brokers are expecting that the 21-year-old tanker will be earmarked for demolition, this has not yet been confirmed.

Tanker owners have been reluctant to stop trading their elderly vessels and if the Varada Blessing does go for demolition, it will be the first VLCC since China Merchants Group sold the 259,000-dwt New Valour (built 1992) to Chinese breakers for $338 per ldt more than a month ago.
