Private offshore-specialist yard Kleven has landed its first export contract with a customer in low-cost Asia for a multipurpose support vessel (MPSV) from high-cost Norway.

Kleven chief executuve Staale Rasmussen says the order shows that his Norwegian yard is competitive globally when “quality, punctuality and price” are taken into consideration.

Assured quality and on-time delivery of newbuildings are of paramount importance in the offshore sector, since the nature of contracts means most orders are speculative and that charters are normally sought only months before any given vessel’s completion, as TradeWinds has reported.
