Now, Titan has Miller back in its Houston emergency response centre after the salvage master spent more than three years at Danish rival Svitzer Salvage.

In shipping, the experienced mariner and salvage expert is known for handling such high-profile jobs as the 43,800-dwt bulker New Flame (built 1994).

But, for TV audiences, he is known for his description of salvage crews as “ordinary people doing ordinary things in extraordinary situations”, according to Titan parent Crowley Maritime, a shipowner based in Florida.

Miller joined Titan in 2009 and earned his rank of salvage master while working at the company. He also holds a master’s unlimited licence and has experience on ro-ros, tankers, tugs, containerships and other vessels.

“As a master mariner, Captain Miller brings extensive commercial shipping experience to his salvage master experience, something not held by many salvage masters in the industry,” said Titan vice-president Chris Peterson.

“The whole Titan team enthusiastically welcomes him back.”
