Japan’s Chubu Electric Power Co has emerged with its planned LNG newbuilding tender for up to two vessels to cover cargoes it is buying from the US.
Industry sources say the utility has reached out to owners and yards for one firm LNG carrier of up to 180,000 cbm — the maximum size of LNG carrier that can transit the expanded Panama Canal when it opens in 2016 — with an option on a second vessel.
