A haul of LNG carriers have been fixed for spot and short-term business but the activity has not shifted charter rates higher.

Brokers suggest the fixtures have been prompted by an excess of low-priced cargoes, particularly in the Far East, and the availability of LNG tonnage at weak rates.

They say owners can still command levels in the low $50,000-per-day range for modern LNG carriers that are cold and fixing for business either in the east or west.
