The Angolan oil company has placed a contract for two firm 160,000-dwt vessels, with options for two more, brokers say.
No price has been disclosed for the tankers, with Clarksons presently valuing a suezmax newbuilding at $65m. This compares with $59.5m at the start of the year.
Brokers say DSME had been favourite to win the Sonangol tender, given the strong relationship between the companies.
